The MC 840 is a very compact, double-diaphragm, gold-plated, large-diaphragm studio microphone with 5 switchable polar patterns (bullet, wide kidney, kidney, hypercardioid, eight). Based on the microphone capsule of the MC 740, a new, even lower-noise preamplifier and an impedance converter without transformer are used. The two-step switchable low-cut (80 and 160 Hz) to compensate for the proximity effect, also a two-stage pre-attenuation (-10 and -20 dB) and its compactness leave the microphonemeet almost all applications. Its slight treble boost when used as a main microphone (2 x MC 840 in XY or ORTF arrangement) in orchestral recordings gives a very transparent, airy sound with very good depth foundation.
